Sharpen Your Focus!

If you're trying to reach a new level in business or your personal life, you have to get clear on what you really want.

I was telling a golf coach that I was working on my swing speed. When he asked why, I said because I wanted to be able to get the ball farther down the fairway. He again asked, "Why?" I said because it'll help me get in a better position to get on the green in less strokes. He then went on to ask me about different aspects of my game to include using my fairway woods, chipping, putting, etc. He helped me realize that those were areas that I could improve on, too. He pointed out that being fast but unfocused wasn't the best way to get where I wanted to be.

Then he asked, "So what's your real goal?"

It hit me that my real goal wasn't just to hit the ball faster. My goal is to compete at a higher level and have even more fun.

He then went on to outline a way for me to focus on more than just trying to hit the ball faster and further. He I also said I need to slow down and focus more--oh, the irony--he was hitting me with my own advice!!! It's all about seeing and working towards the bigger picture. So I'm now sharpening all aspects of my game--the big hits and the little putts--and to include mindset and its affect on performance. And I'm working on stretching and strength training to improve physically. I've now got a comprehensive, workable plan to be an even better golfer!

Getting clear on what you really want is the first step in helping you get from where you are to where you want to be. Clarity will help you be in a better position to formulate the right plan to get you there. And having the right plan and the right path will get you further, faster!

So if you're working on your game--whether you're trying to reach a new level in business or your personal life, here's the best piece of advice:
