Find Focus By Being Unfocused

For the past couple of weeks I've had family visiting and it's been wonderful just to explore and be spontaneous and unfocused from my usual routine. But what being unfocused has done is allowed me to REFOCUS--and now I've got even more energy to pour into new (and old) things. For example, after a long break, I've picked my camera back up and started shooting and nurturing my creative spirit once again. One morning I saw sunrise colors forming through my bedroom shutters and I hollered at my sister who was visiting to “Throw on some clothes and run!” (We had to hurry to see the sunrise because the colors change so fast.) We got out the door, she was still putting on her shirt and I noticed my dress was on backwards. The rush was worth it as we were witness to an absolutely spectacular sunrise.

Yesterday I was feeling lazy and it was stinkin' hot outside, but I had heard there was a giant swell hitting the island shores and I knew there would be a chance to get some good wave pics. So I forced myself to crawl out of my air-conditioned home, threw my camera in the car and drove out west. I was rewarded with the roar of giant surf and scenic awesomeness. The energy was indescribable. My creative side kicked back in and I decided to do some sepia-toned images reminiscent of old Hawaii.

I found my photo mojo once again. And now I'm even more motivated to work on some non-photo projects, to include a book I've had in the works for awhile, some new online coaching courses, and get back to my podcast.

So as much as I talk about finding focus, sometimes you have to just let go and be unfocused. Go with what calls you. Because trust me, you'll find focus through the experience of being unfocused. Sometimes when we think so hard and try to focus or work on something and it's just not happening--consider that this is the universe's way of letting you know that it's okay to disconnect. Allow yourself to float, to wander. As I've said before, if you're experiencing feeling stuck or lost--perhaps this is where you're supposed to be. You're not really lost, you're freely exploring. You will land where you need to be. You'll see what you need to see, you'll experience what you need to feel. Let the experience flow through you. Let it lead you to where you need to go and enjoy the magic of the unexpected.

There's always a new sunrise, a different day, a different path. Go exploring (especially within yourself). Be spontaneous. Stress less. Live more in the moment. Follow your calling. You'll find your focus.

Cheering for you!
